exercise for busy people
<<Back to Getting Active

No healthy lifestyle is complete without exercise.

Moving at least 30 minutes each day, even in three 10 minute bursts, is a great way to pick up your energy and help reduce your risk of heart disease.

Here are some easy ways to add activity into your day, without hitting the gym:
  • Wake up to a few minutes of sit-ups, push-ups, or other simple exercises before hitting the shower.
  • Instead of circling the mall for the closest parking space, park at the far end and walk in. Then take a walk all the way around before you visit any stores.
  • Stairs will get you to the same place as the elevator, and will give your legs something to do!
  • Spend a sunny day working in the garden! Bending, squatting, digging and pulling will get your whole body in motion.
  • Take advantage of parks & nature trails. Weekend hikes are a nice way to relax with the family, and a great way to exercise without much strain.
  • Find a friend or two (or three). Exercising with someone else makes a workout a social occasion you won’t want to miss.
  • Do what you love – walk, run, bike, swim, dance – it all counts!
  • Take 10-minute brisk walks several times a day.
  • Take a walk in a community center or shopping mall.
  • Hop off the bus a stop or two early and walk briskly to your destination.
  • Turn household chores into calorie burners. Move with a purpose.

Testimonials & tips from real people:
Just to try to get a little more exercise in each day, I try and take the stairs instead of the elevator everywhere I go. Even a few steps makes me feel like I'm getting a little bit of exercise in.
